PRB: Visual InterDev 1.0 Not Previewing ASP After IE4 Install

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Visual InterDev, version 1.0

When you right-click an Active Server Pages (ASP) file that is open in the Visual InterDev editor and select "Preview xxx.asp" from the Shortcut menu, the File Download dialog box appears, and the ASP file opens in the FrontPage (Visual InterDev Edition) editor, instead of previewing in the browser.

NOTE: This behavior does not occur when choosing "Preview in Browser" when right-clicking on the file in the "Workspace" pane.

The conditions that cause this error to occur are as follows:

  1. Internet Explorer 4.0 is installed on the client machine.
  2. The "Preview xxx.asp" menu is used from the ASP editor to view the ASP page.

There is no workaround at this time.

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
